BarkBoard is a family dog-care app. This page explains what data the app collects, why, and what your options are. We've kept it short on purpose.
Who we are
BarkBoard ("we," "us") is built and operated by the BarkBoard team. Contact: hello@barkboard.xyz.
What data we collect
We collect only what's needed to make the app work for you.
- Account info. When you sign in with Apple or Google, we store the identifier and email those providers give us, plus an optional display name. We never see your Apple or Google password.
- Dog profiles. Names, breeds, photos, weights, and birthdays you enter for your dogs.
- Activity logs. Everything you log — feedings, bathroom breaks, walks, training, health records, notes — along with the time and which dog they belong to.
- Location during walks. When you tap "Start Walk," the app records your phone's GPS position so it can map the route. Tracking stops the moment you tap "End Walk." Outside of an active walk, the app does not access your location.
- Photos you attach. Photos added to activities are uploaded to hosted storage so they're available across your devices and to family members you share with.
- Push notification token. If you allow notifications, we store the device token your OS provides so we can send reminders and family updates.
- Basic device info. App version, OS version, device model — used for crash diagnostics and to know which features are safe to ship.
What we don't collect
- We don't show ads and we don't have any ad SDKs.
- We don't sell your data to anyone.
- We don't track you across other apps or websites.
- We don't access your location when you're not on an active walk.
We try to hold as little of your data as possible — and only what makes the app worth using.
How your data is used
The data above is used to run the app — showing your dog's activity feed, mapping your walks, sending reminders you opted into, and syncing the same data to family members you invited to share a dog's profile.
Family sharing
If you invite a family member to a dog's profile, the activities, health records, walks, and photos for that dog are visible to them while the share is active. You can revoke a family member's access at any time from inside the app — doing so immediately stops their access to that dog's data.
Who we share data with
We use third-party services to actually run the app. They process your data on our behalf and are bound by their own privacy terms.
- Supabase — database, authentication, and file storage. (privacy policy)
- Apple — Sign in with Apple, push notifications via APNs, App Store distribution. (privacy policy)
- Google — Sign in with Google, push notifications via FCM (Android), Google Maps for the walk-tracking screen. (privacy policy)
- Expo — over-the-air app update delivery. (privacy policy)
We do not share or sell your data with anyone else for advertising, marketing, analytics, or any other purpose outside of running the app.
Where your data lives
Your data is stored in Supabase's hosted infrastructure on US-based servers. Photos are stored in Supabase Storage (also US-based). Both are encrypted in transit (TLS) and at rest.
How long we keep your data
We keep your data as long as your account is active. If you delete your account from inside the app (Profile → Delete Account), we remove your personal data — account record, dog profiles, activities, walks, and photos — within 30 days. Backup snapshots may retain copies for up to 90 additional days before they age out.
Your rights
You can, at any time:
- See all the data the app holds about you and your dogs — it's all surfaced in the app itself.
- Edit or delete any individual activity, walk, or dog profile.
- Remove a family member's access to a shared dog.
- Delete your account entirely from Profile → Delete Account.
- Email us at hello@barkboard.xyz with any privacy question or request.
Children
BarkBoard isn't directed at children under 13, and we don't knowingly collect data from anyone under 13. If you're a parent and believe your child has signed up, email us and we'll delete the account.
Changes to this policy
If we update this policy, we'll change the "last updated" date at the top, and material changes will be surfaced in the app on next launch so you know to re-read it.
